To help customers maximize the efficiency of their HVAC units, the Staron family’s S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal has programs, pricing and savings hacks to help make every penny count

There is no escaping the effects of inflation. It’s not just gassing up your car when you are leaving home that is costing so much, but staying put in your home also is more expensive. At S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal, the family-owned business is helping customers budget better for HVAC services with its Preferred Customer Maintenance Program.
“We have been offering this program as a customer service benefit, but now it is more important than ever to find ways to save money,” says Mark Staron II. His parents, Mark Sr. and Gayle, founded the business in 1989. “Customers can save money by extending equipment life, preventing costly repairs and ensuring equipment is operating safely.”
In addition to two tune-ups a year, if there are any problems, maintenance plan clients are given priority when scheduling service and receive a 10% discount on service repair parts and labor. “And for loyal customers who sign up for the maintenance program every year, we give them 10 % off a new heating or cooling unit when it is time to replace it,” adds Mark.
Now that summer is officially here, you want to make sure your air conditioning is in peak condition when you start running it around the clock.
“We recommend that homeowners get a precision tune-up every year,” says Mark, noting the company has a dedicated staff of certified tune-up technicians. “This is a thorough, two-hour service with a 30-plus-item checklist. We are tuning, cleaning, lubricating and making any necessary adjustments to keep it running at peak efficiency.”
If you need a new air conditioner, now is the time to buy.
“Prices from our manufacturers and suppliers have been going up every month by 7% to 8%, so we can only guarantee quoted prices for 30 days,” notes Mark. “And starting January 2023, the Department of Energy is requiring all units to be 14 SEER so prices will increase with the higher efficiency standards.”
The good news, however, is that installing a new air conditioning unit can cut an electric bill in half.
“More than just helping people stay cool this summer, we help them save money with high-efficiency products designed to reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills,” says Mark, noting the company is a Trane Comfort Specialist. “We are a volume buyer, so we get the best pricing and pass along the savings to our customers.”
In addition to air conditioners, the company installs and repairs all types of HVAC systems, including gas, electric, boiler, steam and radiant, as well as hot water tanks, tankless water heaters and walk-in coolers and other refrigeration units.
The company also offers air purifiers, including Air Scrubber by Aerus and Trane CleanEffects Air Cleaner, which reduce contaminants and purify the air by getting rid of germs, allergens and odors.
S&S Heating & Cooling technicians attach the Air Scrubber directly to your HVAC system ductwork above the coils. It works year-round automatically when you are running your heating unit, air conditioner or fan. And the CleanEffects whole-house air filtration system removes airborne particles and allergens from the air when it passes through the filter.
To test your air quality and see how you can improve it, S&S Heating & Cooling offers a free system audit that shows how to clean, ventilate, dehumidify or humidify the air you breathe.
Stay Cool
Now more than ever, every penny counts. To maximize your air conditioner’s efficiency so it doesn’t have to work so hard, S&S Heating & Cooling offers these tips to keep your house cool:
- Shut Inside Doors: If you have a two-story house, keep the doors on the second floor closed to trap in cold air.
- Change Fan Direction: Set your ceiling fans to run counterclockwise to push air straight down.
- Shade Windows: Keep your blinds and curtains closed, especially those facing east or west, during the peak afternoon hours.
- Maximize A/C: Change filters regularly and check the refrigerant level. If you see frost on the coils or ice on the refrigerant lines, your refrigerant is probably low.
- Move Air Return Vents: If you live in an older home where the air return is located near the floor, S&S Heating & Cooling can add another vent higher on the wall to draw out the hot air and cool it down.
