Spring is nature’s wake-up call. With just over a month left until the season’s arrival, it’s time to roll up your sleeves, grab a shovel, and get planting. But when it comes to trees, if you’d rather not get your hands dirty, consider reaching out to the professionals at Titan Arbor Care.

Certified arborists Jay Dalton, Jeremy Rolf and Tyler Honsaker, co-owners of the company that’s quickly becoming a go-to source for all things trees, specialize in preserving lush greenery and strategically managing tree removal and replacement to foster flourishing landscapes.

Jay digs into why it’s time to rise to the occasion as spring approaches and warming temperatures coax the soil out of its winter slumber.

“As the soil warms, tree roots become more active, making it ideal for planting trees and providing them with the perfect environment to establish themselves,” he explains.

There’s no time like the present to give saplings the water they need to get established as they settle into their new digs.

“There’s typically plenty of moisture in the spring, reducing the need for extensive watering,” Jay says. “We provide watering bags for convenience. Just fill them as needed, depending on the temperature outside. These bags gradually release water, ensuring consistent hydration as trees settle into their new surroundings.”

Another enticement to get planting is the early bird catches the worm—or, in this case, the tree.

“The variety and availability of trees is more abundant in the spring,” Jay says. “Later in the year, the availability of what you can dig becomes slim. We have really good choices right now.”

According to Jay, maples thrive in the region. Norway spruce and green giant arborvitae are popular evergreens. Additionally, he recommends oaks, like the white and red varieties, which are well-suited to the climate. He suggests trees like sweet gum, black gum, and ginkgo for those looking to add more unique hues to their landscapes.

Tree removal is often necessary due to disease, structural concerns, an incompatible location, or some other reason.

“A tree is either a benefit or hindrance,” Jay says. “If it needs to come out, our stump grinding machine is portable enough to go anywhere and goes deep enough to where we’re sure we’re going to get everything out. All our equipment is compact enough to move around with minimal disruption. We take every precaution to leave your yard better than we found it. We haul away the grindings, spread fresh topsoil and plant grass right away.”

But Titan Arbor Care’s services extend beyond mere removal and simply covering its tracks.

“We can remove the tree, recondition the soil, and replant in the very same spot, effectively revitalizing that space,” Jay says. “We can also do something like a yard rehab project, clearing out tree lines to reclaim an entire area.”

Titan Arbor Care’s expertise extends to plant healthcare, or PHC, insecticide treatments, and proactive pruning plans.

“Selecting the right tree for the right spot is where we showcase our expertise as certified arborists,” Jay says. “We understand each tree’s potential growth, dimensions, growth rate, and environmental adaptations and account for factors like sunlight exposure, soil moisture and traffic patterns.”

Titan Arbor Care helps keep your property beautiful and healthy year-round.

One significant concern for Ohio homeowners is the emerald ash borer and other exotic, invasive species.

Ash trees experiencing over 50% canopy decline due to infestation are generally poor candidates for insecticide treatment as a preventive measure and should be considered for removal, which is why it’s essential to seek out the expertise of a certified arborist sooner rather than later.

Discussing the importance of scheduling insecticide and fertilization services, Jay explains how these treatments can promote tree health and resilience against pests and diseases. He mentions that Titan Arbor Care’s plant health care services include ground injections and foliar sprays to address specific tree health issues and ensure optimal growth.

Finally, Jay emphasizes the significance of another aspect of plant health care: spring pruning.

Tree removal may be necessary due to disease, structural concerns, an incompatible location, or some other reason.

“Early spring is an ideal time for pruning as it promotes healthy growth and helps maintain the shape and structure of the tree,” he says. “Proper pruning can also remove dead or diseased branches, reducing the risk of pests and diseases.”

It’s only a matter of time before March comes in like a lion, shaking and rattling overgrown branches and significantly increasing the risk of dead weight falling from their perches. Pruning now avoids a rude awakening and reduces hazards to your family, neighbors and home. It’s no time to throw caution to the wind.
