Here’s how MaxStrength Fitness became a life-changing fountain of youth for 73-year-old dynamo Valerie Ekey
By Patricia Nugent
If 50 is the new 30, then what is 70?
Valerie Ekey will tell you it’s a vibrant venture of travel, boating, and chasing after two adorable grandchildren. In short, she’s having the time of her life.
She credits much of this to the trainers at MaxStrength Fitness, where she’s been a devoted member since 2015.
“I read about it in Mimi Magazine and wanted to see for myself if the protocol of two 20-minute sessions per week really worked,” says Val, who just turned 73. “After walking through the door, I realized this is nothing like a gym. Everything felt different. The trainers are very professional, knowledgeable and committed. They were friendly, genuine and welcoming.”
After her first two sessions, she was hooked.
Intense and Invigorating
Studio Founder Jeff Tomaszewski met with Val during the initial consultation to discuss her goals. He explained the science and research behind the training methodology and the specialized equipment, designed to fatigue the muscles through slow and progressive movement.
“I’ve always been athletic,” she says. “But these workouts are so intense and invigorating. They push me harder than I’ve ever been pushed. I feel energized when I walk out. Three years ago, I had a knee replacement and I feel the exercises were instrumental to my successful rehab.”
An added plus for this super-active lady is that since studio temps are kept chilly, the workouts are sweat-free.
“For me, getting up and showering, then working out, then going about my day is a game-changer,” she says. “It’s the perfect fit for a busy lifestyle.”
She also feels that maintaining muscle tone is akin to the fountain of youth.
“My trainer works out every muscle group, especially the core, which is important to maintain balance,” she says. “And it feels wonderful to stay in shape as you age.”
“I recommend MaxStrength to my friends because you won’t find any place that offers personalized workouts that work,” she adds. “Jeff’s positive and motivating attitude is contagious. That’s why I’ve stuck with it all these years. Life is short. Take good care of yourself and make the most of it.”
New Next-Level Wellness Program
Next month, Jeff and his team are taking their protocol to the next level by rolling out a wellness coaching program.
“This is a natural extension of our customized method of training,” says Jeff. “By working with a MaxStrength coach, people will receive a level of support to break the habits that might be holding them back in life, whether it means nutrition, getting the best quality of sleep, or stress management. It’s basically a course-correct for taking your life to its optimal potential.”
The relationship starts with a consultation. Our coach will help establish the person’s underlying motivations, identify obstacles and strategies for getting around them, and finally craft a vision statement. After that, follow-up sessions will happen once or twice a week.
