This year will be remembered for a lot of things. (Seriously, the pandemic is still happening?!?) But one of the more prominent developments is the rise of self-care. People are finally realizing why taking care of themselves matters. And they are seeking out more holistic and integrative ways of doing that.

Vivify Wellness at Avenues offers a synergistic menu of wellness treatments and services ranging from massage therapy and acupuncture to a salt room and infrared sauna.

Founded in 2018 by Lisa M. Borchert, M.A. Ed., LPCC., Vivify takes the mind-body-spirit connection to new heights.

The Vivify Wellness at Avenues team includes (L-R) Kevin Caputo, Lisa Marie Holbrook, Nicki Masters, Lisa M. Borchert and Karalyn Bord.

“Everything we do here is designed to boost the immune system, prevent illness and address chronic issues in a non-invasive way,” she says.

Meet the Caring Staff

• Lisa Marie Holbrook, LMTLisa comes to Vivify with 10 years of experience in hospice care, where she helped manage patients’ pain and edema (swelling), and increased their comfort level. In addition to regular massage, she specializes in lymphatic drainage techniques to reduce swelling and pain. She enjoys writing and informing the community about massage therapy, which you can find on the Vivify blog. “Many individuals are walking around in pain and aren’t sure how to fix it or what to do about it,” she explains. “I like to get to the root of the problem and fix it so they can enjoy life again.”

• Karalyn Bord, LMT, RYTThis holistic massotherapist believes in the power of relaxation massage to address anxiety, depression and sleep disorders. As a registered yoga teacher, she also incorporates the yogic philosophy into her massage practice using the knowledge of postures, meditation and breath work to facilitate healing on an emotional and physical level. “I believe the mind and body are connected in ways we don’t fully understand yet, but that we must consider both in our approach to relieving chronic pain,” she says.

• Lisa Maruk, RN, LMT, Reiki III Master—As a passionate massage therapist and reiki practitioner, Lisa has been a reiki master since 2010, as well as being an RN with over 27 years of experience. She also works as a hospice nurse and volunteers her services to oncology patients. She has a specialization in myofascial release massage and can add reiki to any massage requested. The centuries-old Japanese practice of reiki is said to reduce stress and promote healing. Clients simply lie down on a spa bed and the practitioner’s hands hover just over the body. “Healing work is my profession and my life’s path,” she notes.

Breathing in Health Benefits
Before cold and flu season hits this year, why not try to prevent them rather than suffer?

The infrared sauna uses infrared waves to increase the body’s temperature from the inside out, reducing inflammation and kicking metabolism and the immune system into high gear.

The salt room and infrared sauna offer a natural one-two punch to shorten the duration of illness by fighting congestion and improving breathing, as well as preventing it by boosting the immune system. Both experiences remove toxicity from the respiratory system.

“While in our salt room, people breathe in microparticles of pharmaceutical-grade salt, which penetrate deeply in the lungs and airways, killing viruses and bacteria,” says Lisa. “After one treatment, you will breathe easier and feel less congested.”
