Since 1993, Project Hope for the Homeless has been addressing the needs of our neighbors without homes in Lake County. Programs include an overnight adult shelter, a children and family wing, an aftercare program providing support for former guests, and a senior care house. Project Hope for the Homeless relies on support from the Lake County community to continue its mission.

“An average of 86 percent of our guests transition to their own housing or enter in-person behavioral health treatment within 30 days of coming to us,” Community Engagement Director John Hutchison says. “It’s amazing what someone can do when you take away the stress of where they, and often their children, will eat and sleep.”

Services at Project Hope for the Homeless are supported through volunteers and donations. There are many ways to help, including naming Project Hope for the Homeless as a beneficiary of your charitable giving and volunteering your time and talents.

“Any size donation of wish-list items, your time and your financial help are greatly appreciated,” Executive Director Judy Burr says. “There are many ways for individuals and families to help.”

Volunteers must be over 18 years of age, there is no minimum time commitment and flexible hours include early morning, afternoon and evenings to accommodate any schedule. Opportunities also include Bible study leaders, sharing musical talents or professional services like addiction support, financial guidance, or even hair care services.

“Volunteers who give of their talents always express how they receive much more than they give,” John says. “It’s a great feeling to help those in need.”
