We all have a leaky gut
By Mike Ventresca, Vital Choice Healthstore
Nearly 2,500 years ago the Ancient Greek physician Hippocrates said, “All disease begins in the gut.” He may not have been too far off.
Leaky gut, a relatively recent term, refers to a condition where the gut lining becomes more permeable than it should be, no longer functioning properly as a barrier between the intestines and the bloodstream. Special complexes called tight junctions fail, allowing undigested food particles, toxins, and micro-organisms to enter the blood stream that otherwise wouldn’t be there. This, in turn, triggers an immune and inflammatory response which may lead to obvious digestive complaints like diarrhea and abdominal pain, along with seemingly unrelated issues like brain fog, migraines, anxiety, as well as skin and joint conditions.
Now, we all have some degree of leaky gut, as our intestinal barrier was never meant to be impenetrable. However, studies are beginning to show the modern world plays a major role in damaging tight junctions and increasing gut permeability.
Environmental toxins like glyphosate (Round-Up), medications including NSAIDs, antibiotics and acid blockers, artificial sweeteners, and even stress have all been shown to damage gut lining, leading to increased permeability.
While there are many ways to nourish and enhance the health of the intestinal lining, my favorite product is called GlutaShield. Glutashield is a powder that mixes in water and combines many of most scientifically validated supplements to repair gut lining including glutamine, DGL licorice, N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine, and more.
