Window Depot says trim colors are trending
By Patricia Nugent
Window Depot of Cleveland’s approach to providing the highest level of customer service is relentless. They are always looking for creative solutions to pain points that customers might encounter.
“One of the hottest trends in exterior home design right now is black trim,” says President Tony Hoty. “It fits with any style, from modern farmhouse to contemporary. The only challenge with black windows is they are substantially more expensive, and the color can fade relatively quickly after they soak up the heat from the sun.”
To make matters worse, the heat can also impact operation of those windows over time, since they expand and contract significantly more so than lighter colored windows.
“A smart workaround alternative we like to suggest to our customers is to install white windows with black trim around the perimeter,” he adds. “This does not increase the cost much and since the trim is crafted from PVC-coated aluminum and the color is baked on, it resists fading.”
Problem solved.
“And if a homeowner tires of it after installation, they can simply swap out the trim or repaint it, which is easier and more affordable to replace than windows,” he says. “Trim can be painted for about $50 per unit, while the cost of a installing a new black window could be $1,500.”
In addition to black, the stark shade’s moodier next of kin—brown, bronze and gunmetal gray—are also trending for trim colors, according to Tony.
“Whatever shade you select, new windows can dramatically transform a home’s exterior,” he says. “I feel in general that people are going a bit bolder and are having fun taking chances.”
Save Money
Homeowners are as interested in energy efficiency and cost savings as much as they are style.
“Poorly insulated windows can lead to heating inefficiency and elevated humidity levels and condensation in a home, which is a breeding ground for mold, mildew and rotting wood,” he says.
Window Depot offers every size and style of high-performance replacement window, including vinyl, high-end composite, fiberglass and wood, as well as sliding glass patio doors, entry doors and vinyl coated accent trim in an array of designer colors. Since they are part of a national buying network, yet locally led and family-owned, customers count on them for a wider selection of products installed by dedicated professionals.
Collaborating Along Sperry Drive
Tony reports feedback on the new showroom has been phenomenal since they moved in last year.
“Customers tell us they appreciate that we are located just steps from Design Surfaces Tile and Stone on Sperry Drive,” he says. “Their design-centric approach to home interior renovation is a nice complement to our showroom. People often ping-pong between us. Last year we collaborated with Design Surfaces and about a dozen other businesses along this road for the Spectacular Sperry Home Improvement Show and had a terrific turnout, with food trucks, games and giveaways. Look for more collaborations to come.”
