You don’t have to suffer with foot pain
By Patricia Nugent
Dr. Danielle Shaper, founder of Finesse Footcare in Lyndhurst, has devoted much of her career to exploring emerging technologies to treat foot and ankle conditions in a minimally invasive manner.
“I always try to follow the most conservative path of care first, and there have been numerous advancements,” she says. “But if conditions become too severe to respond to those, I can perform corrective surgery as a next resort. Since I’m affiliated with both the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals, this is convenient for my patients.”
Some of the most common surgeries she performs are to correct hammertoes and bunions, remove soft tissue masses and cysts, as well as treat severe arthritis in the joints by cleaning them out, putting in implants or fusing the joints. With a percutaneous Achilles tendon lengthening, she can stretch a tight tendon and increase blood flow to it to allow for greater movement and function.
“The goal of surgery varies with each patient, but my mission is to improve alignment and function, correct deformities, and, ultimately, alleviate pain,” she says.
Before deciding on a course of treatment, Dr. Shaper takes digital X-rays to gain a clear picture of what’s going on with the foot.
In addition to surgery, she offers the full gamut of foot and ankle care, including routine foot care, the Lunula Laser for toenail fungus, and Radial Shockwave Therapy for heel pain and other conditions. She also treats ingrown toenails, plantar fasciitis, corns, warts, calluses, and sprained ankles and offers diabetic foot care.
“I hope aging seniors don’t just consider foot pain a natural part of aging—because it’s not,” she adds. “I can almost always improve any foot condition through treatment or surgery. You don’t have to needlessly suffer.”
