A telehealth visit is an excellent option for when a physical visit with a doctor does not make sense

After answering a few questions to explain why you want to be seen, you will promptly be connected with two-way video and/or audio to a board-certified physician.

As you’ve stayed at home watching the daily Covid-19 pandemic briefings, you’ve probably heard some talk about telehealth—a convenient way to visit a doctor via your computer, phone or mobile device without leaving your home.

This efficient and affordable health care option is nothing new at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.

“We’ve been offering telehealth for a couple of years,” says Donald DeCarlo, MD, MBA, President of University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.

“It’s an excellent option for when a physical visit with a doctor does not make sense. This includes non-emergency conditions like colds, coughs, sore throats, rashes and allergies, when a specialist is in a different location or when physical distancing is an important safety measure. With telehealth, you can access many of the same services you receive during a traditional appointment, including symptom monitoring, diagnosis and treatment, prescriptions, and other medical services.”

And when it comes to telehealth visits, Dr. DeCarlo assures, many things doctors can do in person, they can still do over the phone or on video.

Here’s How it Works
UH offers two different ways to access care through a telehealth appointment:

  1. Telehealth visit with your doctor: You can schedule an online video or telephone appointment with your regular doctor or a specialty provider. When you call to set up your appointment, a staff member will be able to assist you with selecting the telehealth option that will work best for your individual needs.
  2. Same-day virtual visit: If you have a more immediate, non-emergency medical need, you can speak with a provider within minutes, online or by phone. This convenient service is available 24/7.

Telehealth is a growing trend, as patients seek efficient care at an affordable cost, says Dr. DeCarlo.

“During the current pandemic, telehealth is a very ideal vehicle for obtaining health care in a safe, convenient manner,” Dr. DeCarlo says. “Some people are hesitant to visit their doctor because they’re concerned about being exposed to the Covid-19 virus, so this can be an excellent option.”
