There’s a reason the major home and garden shows come to town in January and February. This is the time of year for reflecting, restarting, reorganizing, and, you guessed it, remodeling.

“When planning our newly unveiled Kitchen and Bath Department, we wanted to create a place to inspire customers with design possibilities, and bring their own dream kitchens and bathrooms to life,” says Office Manager Monica Guhde Rosa, of Guhde Flooring America in Painesville.

The new showroom features room vignettes that show off all of the latest cabinets, countertops, light fixtures and sinks.

“Cabinetry has changed so much over the years,” says Monica. “Customers on a budget no longer have to compromise. For instance, our value line from Midcontinent provides countless options with upscale finishes, more than 50 door styles and helpful functions, such as soft-close drawers.”

For countertops, she says they take a good-better-best approach, offering choices in laminate counters, granite and three brands of quartz, which Monica reports is the most sought-after look.

Kitchen and bath design specialist Cait Rudolph says there has been increasing demand for spa-like master baths.

“Showers are getting bigger, acting as the focal point with decorative tiles, and bathtubs are taking up a smaller footprint,” says Cait. “People are also getting rid of tubs altogether to make room for the shower. And people are seeing their master baths as a retreat to relax in.”

Here’s what else folks are dumping from the stereotypical 1980s bathroom: Hollywood lights glaring over a huge one-piece mirror.

“The trend now is to treat double sinks with two elegant mirrors and their own glamorous light fixtures,” says Cait. “We are ordering everything from fancy cut-crystal chandeliers to simple, organic fixtures and delicate sconces for softer lighting.”

In addition to kitchens and baths, Guhde can also custom build entertainment centers, bars, built-in desks and much more.
