Aptly named “An Adventure to Remember,” the 2022 Lake County YMCA Dream Car Fundraiser is bigger and more exciting than ever.

The ambitious fundraising team has pulled out all the stops, offering a package valued at $50,000 that includes a loaded Chevy Silverado Crew Cab, a $700 Gift Card to any Ohio State Park and $100 gas card to get you there.

“This year we decided to expand the winning package and send a lucky family on an adventurous trip to an Ohio state park in their gorgeous new ride,” says Kelly Penzenik, director of marketing and communications for the Lake County YMCA. “They can customize their experience and use the $700 any way they like, lodging, biking, boating, golfing or dining in the great outdoors.”

Lake County YMCA CEO Dick Bennett couldn’t agree more. “One of the groups the Y impacts the most is families,” he says. “Putting together a package of a great summer outdoor discovery for the family on the go just naturally speaks to our strengths.”

Looking for Avenues of Engagement
Kelly emphasizes that the non-profit association is continuously seeking new ways to engage with its members and community members.

“The ongoing opportunities we face in today’s economic climate have continued to change the way we have done everything and innovate new ways to operate facilities, serve our community and fundraise,” Kelly adds.

She says the YMCA is extremely grateful to the Chevy Network of Dealers and Classic Chevrolet in Mentor, generous and longtime friends, for stepping up and donating the amazing Silverado Crew Cab to help raise critical dollars needed to support the community.

Last year’s campaign raised more than $300,000, and with growing need, it is hoped they will raise even more this year. On the first day tickets went for sale online, more than $18,000 was generated.

Kelly reports that she is humbled by how much the community has already supported the cause and hopes the momentum will continue. She mentions that people are wondering about the Dream House, but this year it was not a viable option.

“Although we would have loved to open a Dream House the last few years, it’s in the best interest of all that we work hard to come back from this and offer the Dream House when it’s safe and can be enjoyed by all,” she says. “As I have said in years past, the safety of our staff, volunteers, members and donors comes first. We also have to vet the financial viability of projects and programs, so the Y remains for all for years to come.”

All proceeds will go right back into supporting Lake County’s most vulnerable residents. No one is ever turned away from Y membership or programming because of inability to pay.

“Now more than ever, our need is great,” says Dick. “The Chevy Network of Dealers and Classic Chevy have supported us for many years and truly understand the impact we make together in the communities we serve. We are so appreciative.”

John McCurdy of The Chevy Network and Classic Chevrolet Mentor says partnering with the Y is a perfect fit with their mission to support local causes.

“We are a Lake County business that likes to spend its charitable dollars right here in Lake County,” says John, noting this is the ninth year they will support this worthy cause.

One Sweet Ride
“The Silverado LT Crew Cab is a heavy-duty truck that’s ideal for busy families,” says John. “It’s loaded with cargo space and all the latest safety features. It also offers smart and convenient storage solutions for all your things.”

Valued at over $49,000, the LT Silverado features:

• a four-door truck with back row
• seats up to six people
• the OnStar safety communications platform
• advanced trailering system
• Durabed cargo unit

As part of the package, the winner will also receive:

• A $700 Ohio State Parks Gift Card good for lodging, dining, golfing, boating, biking and shopping at any of the 55 State Parks located throughout Ohio.
• A $100 gas card to get to the parks.

“We’re happy to partner with the Lake County YMCA for this giveaway and look forward to welcoming the lucky winner to our parks,” says Christine Blythe, sales manager from Punderson Manor State Park in Newbury.

Last year, Jayne Chebra of Painesville won the Dream Car fundraiser, driving away with a loaded Chevy Traverse LT AWD, as well as two mountain bikes, a bike rack, a $100 gas card and two-night stay at the Barn Inn in Millersburg.

“I still can’t believe we won,” she says. “We are taking great care of the car and plan to take it on a few summer trips.”

Think Local, Give with Heart
“The Lake County YMCA is one of the area’s largest nonprofits working to better our community,” says Dick.

Kelly points out that the Y engages one out of every five households across the county, and that the programs provide a much-needed outlet for social interaction across the board, from kids and teens to adults and seniors.

She reports that the funds raised through the giveaway will go toward initiatives including Water Safety programs and the Summer Learning Loss Prevention program, that works with students K-third grade, so they don’t let their reading comprehension skills slide over the summer.

“The Y is so much more than fitness centers and gyms, pools and locker rooms. We are a cause dedicated to strengthening (and protecting) the spirits, minds, and bodies of our friends and communities,” says Dick.
