While spending more time at home these past few months, homeowners have been staying busy with home projects. Whether purging the basement storage room, painting a bedroom a cheerful new color or adding a tile backsplash in the kitchen, families are focusing on ways to beautify and enhance their homes.

“Spring is always a busy time for home remodeling, and this year people are more eager than ever to do home improvements because they are spending so much time in their homes,” says Joe Kaye, who, along with his brother, Josh, and father, Ron, owns Kaye Construction.

Spring is always a busy time for home remodeling, and this year people are more eager than ever to do home improvements because they are spending so much time in their homes.

“We are helping families enhance their home’s footprint by building additions, refinishing basements and adding decks or porches to extend the living space outdoors,” says Josh.

Home Additions
Whether adding more space for a dedicated office or enlarging the master bedroom and bathroom, a room addition adds functionality to your home.

Whether adding more space for a dedicated office or enlarging the master bedroom and bathroom, a room addition adds functionality to your home.

“If you love your house with the exception of just one or two rooms, it is easier to change that than selling and buying a new home,” comments Joe. “By building an addition, you can stay in the neighborhood you love.”

Kaye Construction recently built a two-story addition for a Sheffield homeowner. “We built on 10 feet to the side of the house, which added 700 more square feet of livable space,” says Joe. “Now they have a new living area, kitchen and dining room downstairs, as well a new master bedroom and huge walk-in closet upstairs.”

A recent project for Kaye Construction includes this show-stopping kitchen remodel.

On a smaller scale, the company also has been building additions just to enlarge the master bedroom and bathroom.

“By adding square footage to the footprint of a home, we were able to construct a large master bedroom along with a spa-like bathroom for a Westlake couple,” says Joe. “Both the new walk-in closet and walk-in shower provide ample room.”

Today more than ever, people are realizing the importance of a new bathroom. The Kaye Construction men are wizards at tile work, flooring and cabinet installations.

A home addition can also allow seniors to age in place. For one Lakewood couple, that meant building a bathroom addition on the back of the house, along with a deck and wheelchair ramp, so they could remain in their home located on a beautiful tree-lined street near the lake.

“Most Lakewood homes have small lots, so we had to find space where there was none,” notes Joe. “We built a small addition on the back corner of the home’s first floor and added a wheelchair-accessible bathroom with a back door that leads to a deck and ramp.”

“The couple wanted to plan ahead for the future to create a functional design so they can stay in their home as long as possible,” says Joe. “For us, remodeling is more than just sprucing up a home by adding new flooring and cabinets. We are always thinking about how we can make it more functional.”

Outside Living Space
As the daffodils are sprouting and the trees are budding right now, spring is the perfect time to take a fresh look at your outdoor living space.

When looking to add more livable space to your house, look out front and back.

“We can build a deck in your backyard or a front porch and give you and your family more usable living space,” says Ron, who has been working in the home remodeling industry for more than a quarter century. He is passing along his know-how and work ethic to his sons, who he jokingly says were born with a hammer in one hand and a screwdriver in the other.

“You will find the three of us working together on every project,” he says. “Unlike bigger home improvement companies where you never meet the owners, we oversee each job personally and work side-by-side with our tradesmen.”

“We are proud to be locally owned and family operated,” adds Josh. “Working directly with homeowners is a primary part of our business model.”

Depicting the father-sons trio, all with their trademark beards, the company logo accurately portrays the no-frills, hard work ethic of the company.

“We don’t spend money on new trucks and fancy office showrooms,” comments Ron. “By keeping our operating overhead low, we can offer homeowners an affordable option for custom building using high-end products.”
